Cloud workspacesPreview

Your agents keep working when your laptop closes.

A cloud workspace is a managed machine running Canopy. Switch to it from the desktop app, leave agents and servers running, and share it with your team.

What runs there

The same IDE, on a machine that stays on.

Switch to a workspace from the desktop app and keep working in the same window. The difference: nothing stops when you close the lid.

  • Agents and terminals. Your agent CLIs run in real terminals on the workspace, under your own accounts.
  • Servers and previews. Dev servers keep running. Canopy finds their ports, and the preview reconnects when you switch back.
  • Files that stay. Projects and installed tools are kept when you stop or hibernate.
  • Tabs that come back. Open tabs reappear with their names, each marked Reconnecting… until its terminal is back.

Size and place

Pick where it runs. Grow it when you need to.

Start, stop, hibernate or delete a workspace whenever you like. Builds and caches go to scratch space, so they don't fill the disk that holds your projects.

Locations
Singapore, US East (Virginia), Europe (Ireland)
Largest size
Max: 16 CPUs and 64 GB of memory
Storage
50 GB to 1 TB in 50 GB steps. The first 50 GB are included.
Growing storage
Grow it later and your files move to the larger disk. Storage can't shrink.
Scratch space
A private /scratch on the machine's own disk for builds and package caches
Runtime
Prebuilt Docker runtimes, each release booted and checked before it ships

Sharing

Share it like a document.

Add a person, a team or your whole organization, and choose Can view or Can edit. Saving is the share: no setup steps and no copies of your projects.

  • Choose what they see. Projects, agents, Git, agent sessions and accounts each have their own switch.
  • Private stays private. Your home folder and personal accounts are never visible to members.
  • Nobody gets cut off. Hibernating with members connected asks first. Members get Stop my session instead.

Agents across machines

Your desktop and your workspace work as one team.

Agent messages

Desktop agents can reach workspace agents.

They list the agents running in a workspace, with task and status, and message them. Replies return to the terminal that asked. Workspace agents can reply but can't yet start a conversation.

Slack, opt-in

Slack gets an answer when your desktop is off.

Turn on one switch and your workspace answers your Slack messages to the companion while no desktop is signed in. It only answers, and never wakes a sleeping workspace.

Cloud or Remote

Two different things, named plainly.

Remote

Drive your own computer from your phone.

Remote controls the Canopy app already running on your desktop, protected by a PIN. Your computer has to be on.

Cloud workspace

A separate machine that Canopy manages.

It has its own files, agents and servers, and keeps running with your laptop closed. You connect to it from the desktop app.

Questions

Do I need the desktop app?

Yes. You create and manage workspaces from your account or the app's Workspaces panel, then switch to one from the desktop app.

Which agents can I run?

The ones you already use. Bring your own agent CLIs and subscriptions. Each provider bills you directly; Canopy does not pool subscriptions.

What does it cost?

Your balance covers workspace running time, and storage above the first 50 GB is charged by the hour while the workspace exists. Payments are not enabled during the preview.

What happens when I stop a workspace?

Running agents, terminals and jobs stop. Your files and installed tools are kept, and /scratch is cleared only when the machine is replaced.

What if a workspace stops responding?

Canopy restarts it in place after 5 minutes without a response, keeping its container and files. A workspace you stopped on purpose is never restarted.

Can I make storage smaller?

No. Storage can grow but not shrink, and Canopy asks you to confirm before it changes anything.

Cloud workspaces are in preview. Some fixes need your workspace's latest host software, which is installed separately.

Start a workspace in the preview.

Download the desktop app, sign in, and create your first workspace. Bring the agents you already pay for.
